You will fall in love with Italy …

Even if you have been before, like me, you will fall in love all over again.

Eating is one of the highlights in Italy. You will never be short of restaurants to go to, whether it be a 3, 4 or 5 star – your choice. Just be prepared to eat LOTS, experience all the local wines and indulge in a pastry or two.

I started in Lake Como, which I had never been to before. It’s too beautiful for words. Do yourself a favour and stay at least four days. Must-sees are Bellagio, Varenna Bergamo and Brescia.

Italy; one of the easiest places to catch a train. So much better than an airport and far more scenic. Connect the dots to wherever you want to travel to in Italy and watch the world go by at 240kms an hour.

The second stop for me was Venice – a must for everyone. There is no other place like it; a Gondola at sunset, a vaporetto along the Grand Canal, as well as all the favourites – churches, other islands and simply walking the cobblestone streets.

Next stop, Florence – another must do. Take a small Tuscany tour to Siena, San Gimignano, Chianti, Pisa and Lucca (and don’t forget to sample the wine from the local vineyards). Just stroll through the streets, there’s so much to see; churches, museums, markets, Michelangelo and the Uffizi Gallery.

Then on to one of my favourite places in the world, Amalfi. Whether you’re there for a walking tour (like my previous visit) or staying in a 5-star hotel (lucky me this time around!), you will never want to leave. Do nothing or everything. Visit Positano, Sorrento and Ravello, by land or sea. Make sure you do the Isle of Capri. Spend a whole day cruising out to the island where you can shop or just relax in one of the many restaurants, overlooking one of the most iconic pictures in the world.

Next, I found myself cruising with MSC around Palermo, Cagliari, Palma de Mallorca, Valencia, Genoa and finishing in Rome. What a surprise – every port was delightful, whether I was bike riding for 35kms or exploring underwater caves that go for miles in Valencia. One treasure that I didn’t know existed was Genoa. Do yourself a favour and include it in your Italian itinerary.

All things come to end and what better way than to finish in Rome. Again, so much to see and do.
