What’s not to love about waking up in a new country each morning? Unpack once and all your food catered for?  It’s easy to forget that cruising is one of, if not the easiest ways to explore the Mediterranean. Sun drenched days, beautiful scenery, blue waters and architecture rooted in ancient history is just a typical day when sailing the Adriatic. On my own personal holiday with Royal Caribbean I was lucky enough to sail from Venice through Croatia, Turkey & Greece and boy was I impressed with this itinerary.

Starting in Venice sailing through the grand canal is an absolute highlight, make sure you make your way to the top deck of the ship as the view is just remarkable. Cocktail in hand as you sail by Doge’s Palace and St Mark’s Square!

The next morning we arrived in Dubrovnik Croatia and walked the streets of old town. It’s easy to see why people are so enchanted by this endearing city. A trip to Dubrovnik would not be complete without a cable car to the top with a spot of lunch and a glass of wine taking in the breathtaking views of Old Town & Elaphiti Islands.

Today we are at sea and what a relaxing day it is. There is as little or as much to do as you please. Your cruise itinerary lists all the activities on offer for the day. However I chose to lounge by the pool taking in the views and rays of the Mediterranean with a great book. The evening was filled with a three course meal followed by a former Xfactor contestant performance and a trip to the casino…. Roulette anyone?

Oh Santorini how I love you! Words cannot describe the beauty of this island it has to be seen to be believed. Take a trip over to Oia the picturesque town of Santorini with its blue roofed white washed houses. Take in the view of the Caldera over a spot of lunch in the many cafes on offer. Remember to leave yourself enough time to meander through the quaint streets in Fira for some great shopping. The cable cars in the afternoon can be quite a challenge so leave yourself ample time to beat the queues or if walking down make sure you have good supportive shoes on.

The Treasures of Ephesus – what a spectacular personal highlight! This place is truly wonderful from its history to its people. The Ephesus ruins are that well preserved you feel like you are back in the era of Alexander the great & Cleopatra. It’s very easy to imagine what life was once like in this thriving city. The terrace houses are fantastic with wall paper / artwork in almost perfect condition is truly an impressive piece of history right down to the original tiled floors in the Basilica. Did I mention the house of Mary (where mother Mary) is believed to have had her final resting place is in Kusadasi. Ephesus is defiantly a destination I encourage anyone to include on their cruise itinerary.

Another day at sea and the pool deck is filled with the cruise staff as they bring the entertainment for the afternoon with pool games. You can just imagine that being on a ship filled with Europeans that the music and ambience is electric! Such fun was had by all and a great day to relax and unwind after a few days sightseeing with fun for all ages! Yes a ninety seven year old man named Paolo won the belly flop competition not to mention the “ships sexiest man”.

The ship is coming into dock and I can’t help but think how wonderful, easy and stress free this trip has been as I make my way to the airport on a water taxi as the next stop is DUBAI…..why come all the way home when you can stop halfway and stay at Atlantis Palm Island?

Now all that’s left to do is plan the next trip……
