In December, I embarked on a wonderful scenic cruise through the mystical, magical Myanmar on the newest luxury ship, Scenic Aura.

From all areas, Scenic Aura did not disappoint. I have never been on a better scenic ship to date. The ships in Myanmar and Mekong are purpose built. As there are no locks, the ships are twice the size of normal river cruise ships. Cabins are not just a hotel room, but a floating 5-star home away from home, with beautiful floor to ceiling windows, a lounge room, full sized bathroom and not to forget the walk-in robe.

From the time we embarked on the ship, the Aura delivered 5-star service with a ratio of one staff member per one passenger. All staff ensured you were happy and you could not want for anything throughout the trip. The food provided by the chef and his staff was outstanding, from the buffet choices to the specialty menus, and were worthy for any 5-star restaurant. The 10 course chef’s table degustation menu was another great highlight.

Shore excursions with Scenic are always of the highest standard and yet again I was not disappointed. From horse and cart, a rickshaw ride to ballooning high above Bagan, they exceeded all expectations.

Myanmar is still a mystery to the rest of the world, making it one of the most peaceful and relaxing holidays that I have ever been on. Do yourself a favour and go before the rest of the world discovers Myanmar.
